"In January 2009, the Pacific Gateway International Marketing Group at Foreign Affairs and International Trade Canada contracted IE Market Research Corp. (IEMR) to undertake a comprehensive survey of executives at US-based importers, exporters, freight forwarders, Third Party Logistics (3PL), and Fourth Party Logistics (4PL) firms. The overall objective of this engagement was to measure these companies’ perception and use of Canada’s gateway infrastructure compared to other US / Mexican routes.
In order to obtain key insights to help refine our marketing strategy, IEMR developed an innovative importance-performance methodology that measured the relevance of various metrics to the target executives surveyed and the performance in those metrics for nine of the leading ports in North America, including the Canadian ports of Vancouver, Prince Rupert, Montreal, and Halifax. An online survey was then deployed in the field and responses were received from over 325 executives. IEMR provided detailed analysis of the results together with a strategic report that focused on the implications of the survey to our marketing efforts.
IEMR’s work on our project was highly professional. IEMR’s staff was diligent in ensuring that all our comments were taken into account through the project’s life cycle as well as in providing recommendations on the best methods for achieving our goals.
