IE Market Research Corporation tracks publicly available media releases and deal announcements in the telecommunications sector and reports the result on a quarterly basis. We categorize each deal into different segments. At the end of each quarter, our Global Telecommunications Network Infrastructure Services Contracts Database and the corresponding Network Infrastructure Services Segments Databases provide our clients with a description of each deal, analysis of trends in different segments and by leading network infrastructure companies. Put together, this database is one of the most comprehensive strategic assessments of trends in telecoms network infrastructure industry available.

For our 2Q.2009 Global VOIP Services Contracts Database, clients will receive a database of 590 deals signed by vendors in the VOIP segment. Our historical and current data covers deals signed by 110+ vendors in this segment with their customers which include telecom carriers, cable companies, broadcasters, government organizations, and other institutions (such as universities, airport authorities, etc.)

From this database, segment trends can be established by looking at aggregated information by country, by world region (6 regions available), by vendor (110+ vendors), by customer, and in different quarters (complete data available from 1Q.2004).

This report will be useful to:

·         Device and equipment manufacturers in all areas of the telecommunications infrastructure market that need strategy recommendations on key trends in the network infrastructure industry

·         Strategists and analysts at vendors responsible for strategy development and business analytics

·         Financial analysts and portfolio managers covering firms in the network infrastructure industry

·         Consultants advising their clients on international telecommunications markets

·         Researchers who need to gain a better understanding of the network infrastructure market

Executive Summary (for the Global Telecommunications Network Infrastructure Services Outlook only)

309 Network Infrastructure Contracts announced in 2Q.2009

·         309 announced contracts represent a -37% decline in announced contracts QoQ and a -34% decline in announced contracts YoY

·         It also represents the largest quarterly and annual declines in the number of contracts since 2004

Top-10 Contract Segments continue to be similar to 2Q.2008

·         IP Infrastructure, Managed Services, Software (BSS and OSS), and IPTV installations occupied the top slots in 2Q.2009

·         We saw a big drop in optical networking contracts in 2Q.2009 from the year-ago quarter, as customers scale down or delay their CAPEX in this area

Top-10 Deal segments show weakness across the board

·         While the number of IP infrastructure and managed network services contracts were steadily increasing up until 1Q.2009, 2Q.2009 saw a major decline in these contracts

·         As an example, the number of announced IP infrastructure and managed network services contracts are down by -39% YoY in 2Q.2009

·         We are observing sequential declines in optical networking contracts. This deal segment has seen 4 straight quarters of declines

Top-10 list of network infrastructure companies remains unchanged

·         While Nortel briefly took the lead in terms of the number of announced contracts in 4Q.2008 (45 deals in 4Q.2008), its announced deals have come back into line with its longer term market position

·         Alcatel-Lucent continued to announce the largest number of deals in 2Q.2009 (28 deals) compared to second-placed Huawei (17 deals)

·         Huawei has shown a steady rise in announced contracts over the past 4 quarters, compared to other firms that have seen a declining trend, although the number of deals announced by Huawei in 2Q.2009 (17 deals) was the same as in 2Q.2008

Market Share of announced contracts of Top-10 network infrastructure companies remains unchanged

·         Of the 124 contracts announced by the Top-10 network infrastructure companies, Alcatel-Lucent continues to be on top with a market share of 22.5% of announced deals

·         Huawei (13.7%), Cisco (12.9%), Motorola (12.1%), Nortel and Ericsson (10.5%) were ranked #2 - #6 in terms of announced deals

Top-6 Network Infrastructure Vendor Review

 #1. Alcatel-Lucent

·         Alcatel-Lucent’s Contracts Structure has remained the same with IP Infrastructure and Managed Network Services accounting for over half of their contracts in the year ended 2Q.2009

Key Contracts announced by Alcatel-Lucent in 2Q.2009

#2. Ericsson

·         Ericsson’s Contracts Structure broadly similar with managed services accounting for one-third of their announced contracts

·         Comparing year ended 2Q.2009 to year ended 2Q.2008, we see that managed network services accounted for over one-third of the contracts announced by Ericsson. On the other hand, WCDMA deployments slowed down considerably in the last year

·         Given Alcatel-Lucent’s move toward managed network services, we expect increased competition in this segment in the years to come. We think that while telco customers can always delay infrastructure projects, there is an increased move on their part to focus on customers rather than network management.

Key Contracts announced by Ericsson in 2Q.2009

#3. Nortel

·         Nortel’s focus continues to be IP infrastructure, VOIP, and Optical Networking

·         Comparing year ended 2Q.2009 to year ended 2Q.2008, we see that Nortel’s leading deal segments continue to be broadly similar with IP infrastructure, optical networking, and VOIP strong elements of its portfolio

·         We continue to think that any buyers of Nortel’s various business units will see significant traction in future growth, given Nortel’s strong position in the IP infrastructure, VOIP, and optical network markets

Key Contracts announced by Nortel in 2Q.2009

#4. Nokia Siemens Networks

·         Managed Network Services accounted for more than half of Nokia Siemens Networks’ announced contracts for year ended 2Q.2009

·         Comparing year ended 2Q.2009 to year ended 2Q.2008, we see that managed network services accounted for 54.7% of announced contracts for NSN

·         We think that from a revenue stand-point, this is a good thing for NSN in the short- to medium term, given that managed network services contracts tend to be multi-year contracts that are often renewed and other segments such as IP infrastructure and optical networks have taken a hit due to the global economic slowdown

·         We think that NSN’s bid for Nortel’s wireless infrastructure businesses will fill its existing gaps in the wireless space

Key Contracts announced by Nokia Siemens Networks in 2Q.2009

#5. Cisco

·         Cisco continues to focus on IP Infrastructure, although recent contracts in IPTV and Voice on Demand show that its product portfolio is diversifying

·         The broad structure of Cisco’s announced contracts appears to be staying the same, with IP infrastructure accounting for 52.4% of announced contracts for the year ended 2Q.2009

·         Recent efforts by Cisco to break into the Voice on Demand and IPTV markets are showing some traction with these two deal segments now accounting for 11% and 8.5% of announced contracts for Cisco in the last year

Key Contracts announced by Cisco in 2Q.2009

#6. Huawei

·         Huawei continues to show traction across deal segments

·         Like Alcatel-Lucent, Ericsson, and NSN, managed network services are becoming an important part of Huawei’s portfolio. This deal segment accounted for over one-third of Huawei’s announced contracts for the year ended 2Q.2009

·         As with most other vendors in the Top-10, optical networking and IP infrastructure contracts have been few and far between, even for lower cost vendors like Huawei
